| Summary, etc. |
| 520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. | The reception afforded to American sociology in the 1950s by the French « bosses » of sociology in academia reveals some particularities. If, at the time each of them identify separately in the American research output « the good authors » from which to be ins-pired, and at the same time the rejected references not to be copied, this differentiated selection presents some worrying convergences. The American authors are effectively critiqued by reference to a conception that refers to a « methodological holism » – in-herited undoubtedly at the same time from Durkheimian thought and from Marxism that were dominant at the time. In the end it is a case of appropriating the research me-thods developed across the Atlantic, while reconstructing a conceptual framework around them compatible with the need to explain in all circumstances the parts in terms of the whole. The « rebuilding » of French sociology after 1945 is not, at least initially, the unconditional rallying around the empirical American sociology, which some have wished to see. |
