| Summary, etc. | RésuméL’article veut remettre en cause le rôle de l’affectivité dans la socialité humaine telle quelle se présente dans la sociologie de Émile Durkheim. En proposant sa théorie du « groupe effervescent » comme modèle pour la genèse de la société, Durkheim s’inspire cependant des vues d’un prédécesseur philosophique éminent : Jean-Jacques Rousseau. La lecture proposée ici entend mettre au jour l’inspiration rousseauiste « cachée » de la théorie durkheimienne portant sur la genèse de la société ainsi que sur le rôle des affects là-dedans. Elle montre que la sociologie durkheimienne hérite de la philosophie rousseauiste le lien qui noue, dès le début, la question touchant l’énergie affective au problème du mal. Durkheim emprunte aux sciences naturelles l’idée d’un système énergétique tendant vers l’équilibre. Avec cette idée, il entend contrôler les passions effrénées, qui faisaient déjà peur à Rousseau, et désigner ainsi un bon usage pour le mal. Or, ici la théorie durkheimienne fait partie d’un changement conceptuel plus générale qui s’est produit pendant le xixe siècle et qui porte, précisément, sur le statut de l’affectivité et sur son rapport au mal. Selon l’hypothèse avancée ici, il s’agit d’une toute nouvelle économie du mal, non plus métaphysique mais empirique, et qui peut aussi être conçue comme une nouvelle manière de conceptualiser le rapport entre la nature et la société ou la nature et la culture. |

| Summary, etc. | The article wants to call into question the role of affectivity in the human sociability as it is presented in the sociology of Émile Durkheim. In proposing his theory of the « effervescent group » as a model for the genesis of the society Durkheim was, however, inspired by an eminent philosophical predecessor: Jean-Jacques Rousseau. The reading proposed here wants to bring into daylight the « hidden » rousseauist inspiration of the durkheimian theory concerning the genesis of the society as well as the role of affects therein. It shows that the durkheimian sociology inherited from the rousseauist philosophy the bond which ties, straight from the beginning, the question of the affective energy to the problem of the evil. Durkheim borrows from the natural sciences the idea of an energetic system tending towards equilibrium. With this idea he proposes to control the enraged passions, that frightened already Rousseau, and to put them into profitable use. In this respect, however, the durkheimian theory partakes in a more general conceptual change which took place during the 19th century and which is precisely about the status of affectivity in human existence and its relationship to the evil. According to the hypothesis proposed here this change brings about a whole new economy of the evil, in which the evil is no more grasped in metaphysical but in empirical terms and which can also be seen as a new way of conceptualising the relationship between nature and society or nature and culture. |
