| Summary, etc. | Résumé Alors que la sociologie de la reconnaissance fait en France l’objet d’un fort regain d’intérêt, l’auteur se propose ici de retracer à grands traits la généalogie de la sociologie de la reconnaissance scientifique. Ce faisant, il montre que c’est bien avec la sociologie des sciences, et notamment avec R.K. Merton, que la sociologie de la reconnaissance a fait ses premiers pas. En effet, celui-ci accordait une place importante à cette question dans sa sociologie de la science. Dans son sillage, les frères Cole ou H. Zuckerman ont grandement approfondi l’analyse des dispositifs de reconnaissance, qu’il s’agisse des citations, des distinctions ou des positions. Il fallut attendre quelques décennies pour que, en France, la nouvelle anthropologie des sciences, d’un côté, et la sociologie critique, de l’autre, chacune à sa manière, prolongent et amendent, de façon finalement assez peu radicale, le travail de l’école mertonienne. La mise au point de ce panorama de quelques grands courants d’idée permet à l’auteur de mieux se positionner afin de dresser le portrait de ce que pourrait être une nouvelle sociologie de la reconnaissance scientifique où les sociologues prendraient la mesure non plus de la grandeur des êtres en présence, mais de la capacité à évaluer et à critiquer la mesure de cette grandeur par les acteurs qui peuplent le monde de la science. |

| Summary, etc. | The Sociology of Scientific Recognition : Genealogy and Perspectives While the sociology of recognition has benefited from a strong resurgence of interest in France, the author proposes here to broadly outline the genealogy of the sociology of scientific recognition. In doing so, he shows that it is to the sociology of the sciences, notably R.K. Merton, that the sociology of recognition owes its beginning. In fact, Merton gave an important role to this question in the sociology of science. In his wake, the Cole brothers and H. Zuckerman greatly deepened the analysis of measuring recognition, whether though citations, awards, or positions. In France, it wasn’t until several decades later that the new anthropology of science on the one hand and critical sociology on the other – each in its own way and making few changes of consequence – prolonged and amended the work of the Mertonian school. The development of this panorama of main currents makes it possible for the author to better position himself to draw the portrait of what could be a new sociology of the scientific recognition where the sociologists would no longer judge the grandeur of the people in their presence, but of the capacity to evaluate and criticize the measurement of this grandeur by the actors who make up the world of science. |
