Contre ceux qui croient conférer sa scientificité à l’astronomie en la géométrisant ou en la concevant sur le modèle de la géométrie, Aristote reconsidère la nature de l’astronomie mathématique, son lien à l’astronomie empirique et comment celle-ci doit être distinguée de la physique astronomique comme science indépendante. Parce qu’il montre dans le traité Du ciel comment raisonner correctement en physicien sur les objets supralunaires dont la sensation est problématique, Aristote peut être considéré comme le père de l’astrophysique scientifique. |

| Summary, etc. | This paper studies the original method of enquiry and reasoning used by Aristotle which allowed astrophysics to become a scientific discipline on a par with mathematical astronomy. Against those who tried to promote astronomy to the rank of science by geometrizing it or by modelling it on geometry, Aristotle reconsiders the nature of mathematical astronomy, how it relates to empirical astronomy and how it must be distinguished from physical astronomy which should be understood as an independent science. In his treatise On the Heavens, he demonstrates how to correctly reason on celestial objects, which pose sensory problems, and he can thus be regarded as the father of scientific astrophysics. |
