Summary, etc. | In this second article, Nordbruch shows us how the classical cultural portents of anti-Semitism, which were long a keystone of Western culture and history, are nowadays being used as a distraction from the disarray in which the Arab world finds itself. Taking the Holocaust as an obvious example, Nordbruch highlights a number of astonishing syllogisms into which a substantial proportion of public opinion and many leading intellectuals appear to be locked, and conversely highlights the small numbers of those who admit to the reality and significance of the Holocaust. Some maintain that the Holocaust ‘never took place' and ‘was less serious' than what the Jews allege. Others claim that it ‘did not take place' and that as the Palestinians have ‘suffered more than the Jews', they are therefore the true victims of the Holocaust... which of course, did not take place, etc. This intellectual impasse is symptomatic of the Arab world's refusal or inability to accept and corne to terms with reality. |
