| Summary, etc. | RésuméFêtes et festivals tendent à former une même catégorie d’événements culturels et récréatifs, soumis à un intense renouvellement formel et thématique. Ce renouveau se traduit par d’innombrables créations, mais aussi par nombre de disparitions ou de transformations de fêtes surannées, désormais dépourvues de sens social. Ces manifestations nouvelles ou rénovées se caractérisent par une prise en charge institutionnelle et par une dimension artistique accrues. Elles se signalent aussi par la montée en puissance de leurs fonctions politique, idéologique et économique. Sur le plan géographique, fêtes et festivals mettent en scène l’image identitaire de cités et de régions solidaires et unifiées. Ces événements inscrivent les lieux de leur déroulement dans une géographie de réseaux qui valorise les échelles européenne et mondiale. Ils décrivent les rapports dynamiques du local et du global, du rural et de l’urbain, des espaces publics et privés. Dans ce contexte, l’espace-temps spécifique et séquentiel des fêtes résiste, malgré les nombreuses agressions dont il est l’objet. |

| Summary, etc. | Fairs and festivals tend to be in the same category of cultural and entertaining events, which face an important renewal process, both formal and thematic. This revival expresses itself through countless creations, but also through the disappearance or the transformation of many outdated festivals, which have lost their social meaning. Those new (or renovated) events are characterized by an institutional takeover, by a growing artistic dimension and by their increasing political, ideological and economical functions. As far as geography is concerned, festivals deal with identity representations and stage the image of unified cities and regions standing together. Those events inscribe the places in which they take place in geography of networks that give importance to the European and World scales through dynamic relations between local and global scales, rural and urban, public and private spaces. In this context, and despite the numerous aggressions it undergoes, the specific and sequential space-time of festivals seems to resist. |
