| Summary, etc. | Does the centralizing, integrationist, and authoritarian nature of the Tunisian state allow for social, political and territorial specificity of oasis communities in the country? The case of Kebili, a small regional capital of the Tunisian Sahara, de monstrates how the tradition of customary land property can be maintained separate and apart from the national land law. The existence of this phenomenon does not indicate a lack of national integration, but rather shows the way in which tradition is employed by local actors in order to obtain personal economic gain. |
