| Summary, etc. | Protectorat allemand entre 1884 et 1914, le Togo fut ensuite gouverné par la France qui l’administra jusqu’à son indépendance en 1960 – une période qui cristallise un certain ressentiment anti-français au sein de la population. De nos jours, le Togo reste à bien des égards marqué par l’influence de l’ancienne métropole allemande, qui profite d’une « germanophilie paradoxale » pour y consolider ses intérêts économiques et y déployer une forme de soft power. Une situation que la présence croissante de la Chine dans la région remet désormais en question. |

| Summary, etc. | Having been a German protectorate between 1884 and 1914, Togo was then governed by France until its independence in 1960 – a period that has generated a measure of anti-French resentment among the population. In some respects, Togo remains marked by the influence of the German “mother country” and benefits from a certain “paradoxical Germanophilia” that serves to both consolidate its economic interests and foster a form of soft power. As a result of the fact that China has recently burst onto the scene, this situation is now being called into question. |
