| Summary, etc. | La Llorona (2019), le dernier film de Jayro Bustamante, est une splendide réflexion sur les ambivalences de la société guatémaltèque face à la violence politique qui ravagea le pays durant les années 1970-1980. Sans doute le dictateur à la tête du Guatemala au plus fort de la guerre interne fut-il, après des années de louvoiement, jugé et condamné à quatre-vingt années de prison. Mais, sitôt prononcée, la sentence fut cassée. Subvertissant le langage des classiques films d’horreur, Jayro Bustamante nous donne à voir les mutations de la société guatémaltèque. S’il souligne le rôle central de la violence dans l’histoire récente du pays, il fait percevoir comme peu avant lui la façon dont l’action persévérée et obstinée des femmes, premières victimes de ces violences, a ouvert une brèche dans ces habitus socio-politiques. |

| Summary, etc. | Jayro Bustamante’s latest film La Llorona (2019) is a splendid reflection on the ambivalence of Guatemalan society before the political violence that ravaged the country during the 1970s and 1980s. After years of wavering, the ruling dictator of Guatemala during the climatic period of the internal war was tried and sentenced to eighty years in prison. However, as soon as the sentence was pronounced, it was overturned. Subverting the language of classic horror movies, Jayro Bustamante sheds light on the changes affecting Guatemalan society. While he emphasizes the central role of violence in all fields of Guatemalan experience, he also points out the way in which the relentless action of women, the first victims of this violence, has opened a breach in these socio-political habitus. |

| Summary, etc. | La Llorona (2019), última película de Jayro Bustamante, es una admirable reflexión en torno a las ambivalencias de la sociedad guatemalteca frente a la violencia política que azotó el país durante los años 1970-1980. Después de años de evasivas, se juzgó y condenó a ochenta años de cárcel al dictador que gobernó Guatemala en el momento cumbre del conflicto interno. Sin embargo, inmediatamente pronunciada la sentencia, esta fue revocada. Al subvertir el lenguaje clásico de las películas de horror, Jayro Bustamante nos hace ver las mutaciones de la sociedad guatemalteca. Si bien el director enfatiza la función central de la violencia en la historia reciente del país, a la vez nos permite percibir, como pocos antes que él, de qué manera la acción perseverante y obstinada de las mujeres, primeras víctimas de esas violencias, abrió brecha en los habitus socio-políticos. |
