Summary, etc. This article seeks to bring to the fore a kind of communication that goes on when a person dies. The article will critically look at the subject in a comparative manner taking into account African and European/American cultures and its theological reflection. It tries to uncover the issue of communication that goes on during funerals in both primitive/indigenous and modern cultures. The article compares the relevance or otherwise of the kind of dialogue that takes place during funerals - both Christian and non-Christian. The process of the communication and the belief system associated with it coupled with its theological significance in the context of Christian funeral liturgy as portrayed in tributes, sermons and the practicalities or otherwise of it find space in this article. The article deals with whether or not the dialogue is just a communication, result-oriented or just a myth. All these are connected with the belief systems, traditions and religious beliefs of the persons involved.
