| Summary, etc. | Existe un activo debate sobre el papel del capital riesgo y el espíritu empresarial en el fomento de la sostenibilidad de los sistemas agroalimentarios. Nuestra contribución a este debate consiste en comprender mejor el papel de los intermediarios de la innovación agrotecnológica, es decir, las organizaciones que promueven el espíritu empresarial apoyando a las empresas en sus etapas iniciales. Presentamos el caso de Social Alpha, un intermediario agrotecnológico con sede en la India cuya misión es apoyar innovaciones que mejoren los ingresos de los pequeños agricultores y el desarrollo sostenible. Nuestro análisis investiga las tensiones entre los requisitos institucionales relacionados con la financiación y la resolución de problemas sociales. La atención que prestamos a la forma en que se define, persigue, mide y valora el impacto social nos permite centrarnos en esta tensión. Nuestro análisis pone de relieve las oportunidades y limitaciones asociadas a los esfuerzos dirigidos a movilizar ecosistemas de innovación al estilo de Silicon Valley para impulsar la sostenibilidad.
