Based on the experience of the mother-baby units of the british system, the aim is to make visible the need for the implementation of specialized resources for the care of perinatal mental illnesses, to reduce avoidable suffering to the mother and her baby, to reduce the impact on children of psychopathological processes in pregnant and puerperal women, and make an economic investment in specialized resources that in the short and medium term reduce the costs of perinatal mental disorders, such as depression, anxiety and psychosis, for the State. |

| Summary, etc. | Las enfermedades mentales perinatales son un importante problema de salud pública, que tienen una repercusión en el bienestar maternofilial y en los costes sanitarios, educacionales y jurídicos de un país. Basados en la experiencia de las unidades madre-bebé del sistema británico, se quiere visibilizar la necesidad de implantación de recursos especializados para la atención de enfermedades mentales perinatales, para reducir un sufrimiento evitable a la madre y su bebé, disminuir el impacto en los niños de procesos psicopatológicos en mujeres gestantes y en puérperas, y realizar una inversión económica en recursos especializados que a corto y medio plazo reduzcan los costes de los trastornos mentales perinatales, como depresión, ansiedad y psicosis, para el Estado |
