520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. A marble head acquired by the jeweler Mellerio at the start of the 20th century remains today in Paris in another private collection. The A. shows that reluctance to identify in this portrait one of the sons of Septimius Severus is the result of the difficulty of distinguishing the two youths, who were close in age, in the “Successor Type II” series proposed by Fittschen. Their typology has been largely determined by comparisons of portraits of the two princes. The A. introduces some modification to this typology by subdividing Type II into three variants, based on the beard and side burns, as seen on coinage. Style and technique are also discussed.
