| Summary, etc. | Résumé. – Fouillée par P.-M. Duval en 1947 et 1948, la façade septentrionale des Thermes de Cluny a été identifiée depuis cette époque comme l’entrée monumentale de l’édifice. Bien que cette interprétation ait été reproduite dans de nombreuses publications, elle n’explique pas l’agencement des vestiges encore visibles in situ. La reprise de la documentation ancienne ainsi qu’une nouvelle analyse des structures permettent de proposer une autre lecture de cette façade au centre de laquelle se dressait en fait une fontaine monumentale alimentée depuis les thermes. Parmi les rares exemples gallo-romains, elle est à ce jour une des plus imposantes connues. Cette proposition conduit non seulement à repenser le schéma de circulation des baigneurs, mais également à accorder au bâtiment une nouvelle place dans le schéma de l’urbanisme lutécien. |

| Summary, etc. | AMœNITAS URBIUM and Water Evergetism : The Monumental Fountain of the Baths of Cluny in Lutetia. Abstract. – The Northern facade of the Baths of Cluny was excavated in 1947-1948 by P.-M. Duval and has ever since, in many publications, been identified as the monumental entrance to the Baths. This does not explain the recognisable ruins. A review of the documentation and new analysis of the remains suggest that at the centre of the « façade » there was a monumental fountain fed by the waters of the Baths. This is one of the most imposing of such structures in Gallo-Roman architecture. The new interpretation requires a revision of understanding the circulation of visitors and of the monument’s place in the civic plan of Lutetia. |
