| Summary, etc. | This paper seeks to explain the reasons behind the rhetoric of sovereignty observed in the central Sahel states led by military-civilian juntas, through the example of Burkina Faso. It shows that these juntas, after pledging to bring about brief periods of democratic transition, subsequently turned sovereignty into a political weapon for the conservation and absolutist exercise of state power, thus breaking, on the geopolitical level, with Western powers and democratic values. |

| Summary, etc. | Le présent article cherche à expliquer les raisons de la rhétorique souverainiste constatée dans les États du Sahel central dirigés par des juntes militaro-civiles, à travers l’exemple du Burkina Faso. Il montre que ces juntes, après s’être engagées à conduire des transitions démocratiques courtes ont par la suite fait de la souveraineté, une arme politique en vue de la conservation et de l’exercice absolutiste du pouvoir d’État, rompant ainsi, sur le plan géopolitique, avec les puissances occidentales et les valeurs démocratiques. |
