| Summary, etc. | Les sociétés choisissent-elles le numérique pour s’observer ? Est-ce son adaptabilité à leurs problématiques, notamment leur complexité croissante, qui explique leur succès ? Nous trouvons cet argumentaire dans l’ouvrage Muster, Theorie der digitalen Gesellschaft (« Patterns1 – Théorie de la société numérique ») d’Armin Nassehi (2019). En suivant des critiques apportées à ces propositions, notamment depuis les sciences de l’information et de la communication, nous suggérons de comparer les imaginaires sociaux du numérique, constitutifs des matrices sociétales et des habitus dans lesquels les rationalisations contemporaines et les pratiques sociales s’insèrent, non sans résistances. Ces critiques constructives permettent de souligner les points communs entre théorie critique et théorie des systèmes sociaux et laissent entrevoir une place importante pour les SIC. Ce texte, d’orientation théorique, poursuit ainsi un argumentaire en faveur de la comparaison internationale en Sciences de l’Information et de la Communication (SIC) qui, nous l’espérons, rencontrera des lecteurs bien disposés malgré son degré d’abstraction. Il fait le pari d’une discussion de théories peu mobilisées par les SIC françaises et met ainsi l’épistémologie au service d’une nécessaire intermédiation des théories. |

| Summary, etc. | Do societies choose digital technology to observe themselves? Is this the reason for its success, its adaptability to their problems, especially their increasing complexity? This line of argument can be found in the book Muster, Theorie der digitalen Gesellschaft (“Patterns - Theory of the digital society”) by Armin Nassehi (2019). Following critical reviews of his proposal, especially from the perspective of information and communication sciences, we suggest comparing the social imaginaries of the digital, constitutive of the societal matrices and habitus in which contemporary rationalizations and social practice operate, albeit not without resistance. Said constructive criticism makes it notably possible to underline the common points between critical theory and social systems theory and allows to envision an important place for information and communication sciences. This theoretically oriented text pursues an argument in favor of international comparison in Information and Communication Sciences (SIC) which, we hope, will engage its readership despite its degree of abstraction. It proceeds through a discussion of theories little mobilized by French SIC and thus aims at putting epistemology at the service of a necessary intermediation of theories. |
