| Summary, etc. | Depuis le milieu des années 1990, les Nations unies ont joué un rôle déterminant dans la protection des enfants soldats en raison des conséquences préjudiciables qu’entraînent de tels recrutements pour ces jeunes, leur communauté et la sécurité nationale. Par ailleurs, la prolifération des armes légères et de petit calibre, de moindre coût et d’utilisation facile, a encouragé le recrutement d’enfants soldats. Quelle que soit la manière dont ils ont rejoint les groupes armés, les enfants recrutés se voient d’abord confier des tâches de « soutien opérationnel » : porteurs, messagers ou espions. D’autres sont appelés aux combats et participent activement aux hostilités. C’est surtout, mais pas seulement, les filles recrutées qui risquent d’être victimes d’abus sexuels de la part des combattants adultes. Cet article s’intéresse au recrutement des enfants et à leur utilisation comme enfant soldat en Afrique, dans le monde arabe et en Asie du Sud et du Sud-Est. |

| Summary, etc. | Since the mid-1990s, the United Nations has been instrumental in protecting child soldiers due to the harmful consequences that such recruitment has on these young people, their community, and national security at large. Furthermore, the proliferation of inexpensive and easy-to-use small arms and light weapons has encouraged the recruitment of child soldiers. Regardless of how they have joined armed groups, recruited children are initially entrusted with « operational support » tasks such as being porters, messengers, or spies. Others are called to combat and actively participate in hostilities. It is especially, but not only, the girls recruited who are at risk of being victims of sexual abuse by adult combatants. This article focuses on the recruitment of children and their use as child soldiers in Africa, the Arab world and South and Southeast Asia. |
