520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. The Transmission of Patristic Texts During the Carolingian PeriodThe Carolingian period is called a renaissance ; indeed there was at the time a strong desire to return to ancient texts. In the present article, after having specified the material conditions that presided over the copying of patristic manuscripts as well as their circulation in the Carolingian world, we will endeavor to shed light upon the reading of the Fathers by the various Carolingian authors. Yet, and this is the heart of the question, were not the works of the Fathers employed by the clerics of the ninth century as so many arguments in the diverse polemics that put them in play ? It is this that would justify their being copied.
