| Summary, etc. | RésuméDans son Commentaire sur l’Épître aux Romains, saint Thomas propose une exégèse originale de l’expression « justice de Dieu ». Son interprétation, différente de celle des Pères tout autant que de celle des modernes, inverse l’ordre traditionnel qui consistait à mettre en avant le sens sotériologique de l’expression, sans jamais exclure que l’on puisse donner au génitif un sens subjectif, contrairement aux autres médiévaux, qui reprenaient l’interprétation d’Augustin. Ces deux caractéristiques correspondent à une orientation foncièrement contemplative de son travail théologique qui reste aujourd’hui requise et féconde. |

| Summary, etc. | In his Commentary on the Epistle to the Romans, St. Thomas proposes an original exegesis of the expression « God’s justice ». His intepretation, as different from that of the Fathers as from that of the moderns, reverses the traditional order which consisted in underscoring the expression’s sorteriological meaning, while never excluding the possiblity of giving the genetive a subjective meaning, by constrast with the other medievals, who restated Augustine’s interpretation. These two characteristics correspond to a wholly contemplative orientation of his theological work which today remains vital and fruitful. |
