| Summary, etc. | RésuméLa section 6 de la première Dispute Métaphysique de Suárez procède à une étude critique de la célèbre formule aristotélicienne: « Tous les hommes désirent connaître ». Cette recherche revêt une importance centrale dans la perspective d’une introduction des conditions de la position de la métaphysique comme système du savoir. Est-il possible et légitime d’avancer que, parmi l’ensemble des sciences, la métaphysique constitue celle qui doit être la plus désirée par l’homme ?En effet, à partir de la détermination de la fonction, de la finalité et de l’utilité de la métaphysique, apparaît une interrogation que la philosophie elle-même ne peut ignorer : pourquoi voulons-nous la connaissance métaphysique ? En essayant d’y répondre, Suárez crée le soubassement d’une articulation entre le développement de la connaissance et la détermination de l’être de l’homme. Afin de saisir pleinement le processus de mise en forme conceptuelle de la réalité, il convient également que l’homme s’apparaisse à lui-même tel qu’il est dans l’acte de la connaissance. Il en résulte une articulation rigoureuse entre métaphysique, anthropologie et morale dont le philosophe ne peut faire l’économie pour rendre intelligible son projet. |

| Summary, etc. | Suárez and the specificity of metaphysical knowledgeSection 6 of Suárez’s first Methaphysical Dispute engages in a critical examination of the famous aristotelian formula : « All men desire to know ». This study is greatly significant as a prospective introduction for understanding the position of metaphysics as a system of knowledge. Is it possible and legitimate to consider that metaphysics, among all sciences, is the one man must desire most?Indeed, Philosophy cannot ignore the question that emerges from an understanding of the function, finality and utility of metaphysics : why do we want metaphysical knowledge ? In his attempt to provide an answer, Suárez outlines the articulation between the development of knowledge and the determination of man’s being. In order to fully grasp the process through which reality is given form conceptually, it is necessary for man to confront himself in the act of knowledge. A rigorous engagement between metaphysics, anthropology and morality is thus articulated, one which the philosopher cannot avoid in order for his project to become intelligible. |
