| Summary, etc. | RésuméÀ travers l’explication et la clarification de la controverse eucharistique du xie siècle entre Bérenger de Tours et Lanfranc de Pavie, il s’agit de montrer que la problématique plus large dans laquelle elle s’inscrit porte sur la consistance ontologique du sensible et sur la fiabilité de nos structures mentales et corporelles du point de vue épistémologique. Comment comprendre en effet et comment expliquer qu’après la consécration eucharistique, nos sens perçoivent toujours du pain et du vin alors que la foi nous apprend que le corps et le sang du Christ sont présents ? L’examen de la position de Bérenger au sein de la querelle permet de déployer la thèse selon laquelle l’épaisseur du sensible ne dépend pas de nous, mais de Dieu. |

| Summary, etc. | Eucharistic dispute and the substance of sensible things : Berengar et LanfrancAs it explicates and elucidates the xith century Eucharistic dispute between Berengar of Tours and Lanfranc of Pavia, this article purports to show that the broader issue at stake here is the ontological consistency of the sensible and the reliability of the structures of our mind and body from an epistemological viewpoint. Indeed, how can one understand let alone explain that, after the consecration of the Eucharist, our senses still perceive bread and wine whereas faith teaches us that the body and blood of Christ are present ? A close examination of Berengar’s position in the controversy gives birth to the theory that the substance of sensible things does not depend on us but on God. |
