| Summary, etc. | On tente ici de retracer le chemin, d’existence et de pensée, qui devait amener Franz Rosenzweig au chef-d’œuvre qu’est L’Étoile de la Rédemption. Un premier temps est sous le signe d’un « retour » au judaïsme, où distance est prise à l’égard des « tentations » hégélienne et chrétienne. Vient alors le débat décisif de 1916 avec Franz Rosenstock, où l’amitié rend possible la probité intellectuelle et spirituelle d’un parler-vrai entre un envoyé soucieux d’histoire et un témoin de l’Éternel. Dans une époque divisée entre des nations se disputant la maîtrise du monde et le retrait d’un peuple élu voué à un jugement eschatologique, est-il possible de penser une articulation faisant droit tout ensemble aux existences singulières, à leurs traditions respectives et à leur confrontation signifiante ? Là est le défi que devait tenter de relever L’Étoile de la Rédemption. |

| Summary, etc. | We aim here to retrace the path, of existence and thought, that led Franz Rosenzweig to his masterpiece The Star of Redemption. Its first stage features a « return » to Judaism, where some reluctance is shown toward the hegelian and christian « temptations ». After which, a decisive debate with Franz Rosenstock occurs in 1916, where their friendship enables a thorough, thought provoking and honest discussion between an emissary attached to History, and a witness of the Eternal. In a period split between the quarrels of nations vying for the control of the world, and the withdrawal of an elected people destined for an eschatological judgment, is it possible to contemplate a form of reasoning that allows singular existences in their totality, their respective traditions, and their meaningful confrontations ? Here lies the challenge that The Star of Redemption attempts to reckon with. |
