| Summary, etc. | Le 28 octobre 1965, Paul VI promulguait la déclaration conciliaire Nostra aetate, traitant du rapport de l’Église catholique avec les religions non-chrétiennes. Au paragraphe 4 intitulé « de la religion juive », le Magistère de l’Église catholique se prononce pour la première fois sur le lien qui l’unit au peuple de la première Alliance, rompant ainsi avec l’antique enseignement sur les Juifs déicides et rejetés par Dieu. Jacques Maritain peut être considéré comme un pionnier du nouveau discours chrétien sur les Juifs, qu’il développa dans le contexte d’une France rongée par l’antisémitisme et la montée du nazisme. En analysant la pensée de Maritain sur ce qu’il appelait le mystère d’Israël, l’auteure nous montre en quoi celui-ci s’inscrit et prépare le document conciliaire mais aussi quelles pistes sont encore à exploiter par la théologie. |

| Summary, etc. | The mystery of Israel in the work of Jacques MaritainOn the 28th of October, 1965, Paul VI promulgated the conciliary declaration Nostra aetate, dealing with the relationship between the Catholic Church and non-Christian religions. In paragraph 4, entitled “The Jewish religion”, the magisterium of the Catholic Church made its first statement on the tie that unites it with the people of the first covenant, thus breaking with the old teaching on the Jews as deicide and rejected by God. Jacques Maritain can be regarded as a pioneer in of a new Christian discourse about Jews, which he developed within the context of a France undermined by anti-Semitism and the rise of National Socialism. By analyzing Maritain’s thinking on what he termed the mystery of Israel, the author shows us how Maritain’s work fits into and prepares the ground for the conciliary document, but also indicates some of the paths theology can still take to deepen this examination. |
