| Summary, etc. | L’écologie politique contemporaine donne un nouvel infléchissement aux débats environnementaux qui risquent, sinon, de rester bloqués dans un paradigme réducteur et moderniste. Il est intéressant de noter que cette nouvelle écologie politique s’inspire de plus en plus du langage et de concepts théologiques, en particulier dans l’œuvre de Bruno Latour. Le présent article explore les raisons pour lesquelles il en est ainsi et quelle contribution cette approche peut apporter. L’écologie politique assigne un rôle à la religion en ce que celle-ci génère le genre de conversion aux valeurs humaines qui s’avèrent nécessaires pour une véritable transformation sociétale. En procédant ainsi, l’écologie politique pourrait même être considérée comme un partenaire de dialogue (surprenant) pour la théologie catholique et pour des approches de la crise environnementale qui s’appuient plus largement sur la tradition de l’enseignement social catholique. |

| Summary, etc. | Contemporary political ecology is providing a novel inflection to environmental debates that are otherwise at risk of remaining stuck in a reductive, modernist paradigm. Interestingly, this new political ecology is increasingly drawing upon theological language and conceptualities, especially in the work of Bruno Latour. This paper will explore why this is and what it contributes. It will argue that political ecology finds a role for religion in generating the sort of conversion in human values that will be needed for genuine societal transformation. In doing so, it might even be considered as an (unlikely) dialogue partner for Catholic theology and for approaches to the environmental crisis that draw upon the Catholic social teaching tradition more broadly. |
