| Summary, etc. | RésuméLes questionnements articulant « éthique » et « finance » ne parviennent pas toujours à convaincre, faute d’une attention suffisante à ce que ces termes circonscrivent et indiquent. Souvent, le débat normatif dans le champ financier peine à prendre en charge les entours de l’action financière, et à restituer ce qui se noue dans l’écart entre l’universel (la loi morale) et le particulier (le contexte spécifique de l’action située). Partant de brèves descriptions issues d’un travail ethnographique en salle de marché, et en prenant appui sur les travaux de Paul Ricœur, nous soulignons combien la distinction conceptuelle entre éthique et morale permet de dépasser le discours commun. Se trouvent ainsi mises en perspective d’une part l’herméneutique des règles advenant dans le quotidien de l’opérateur financier, et d’autre part l’importance d’une approche soucieuse des contextes, pour qui entend dépasser le discours moralisant et universaliste. |

| Summary, etc. | Discourses articulating ‘ethics’ and ‘finance’ are not always convincing, because of a lack of attention to what these terms circumscribe in effect. Often, the normative debate in the financial field does not deal correctly with financial practice, and fails to restore what is tied in the difference between the universal (the moral law) and the individual (the specific context of situated action). On the basis of short descriptions resulting from ethnographic fieldwork in a trading room, and drawing on the work of Paul Ricœur, we underline the fruitfulness of the conceptual distinction between ethics and morals. We thus put into perspective the hermeneutic of rules performed by financial operators as part of their daily routines on the one hand, and the importance of contexts on the other hand, if we are to overcome a moralizing and universalist discourse. |
