520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | This article consists of three sections and discusses Hans Urs von Balthasar’s philosophy. The first section gives a brief account of its reception – which is still poor, if compared with the status of his theological work. It then reviews existing studies on the sources and on the main themes of von Balthasar’s thought ; and finally analyzes the distribution of these studies according to their linguistic areas. The second section questions the implicit presupposition of this endeavour, namely whether Balthasar can indeed be considered a philosopher. Three questions are raised : Is he a philosopher ? Is he a philosopher of the School ? Is he a philosopher of a school ? The third section deals with the heart of von Balthasar’s metaphysics : is it being, or is it love ? After showing that love is not beyond being, it shows that love and being are coextensive with one another, while still being distinct in terms of their contents ; it suggests a few proposals for connection, calling for further exploration. |
