Ces quarante dernières années, les neurosciences sont venues poser cette question avec une acuité particulière.De nombreuses expériences ont abouti à des résultats, que certains neuroscientifiques, et notamment en Allemagne, ont interprétés dans le sens d’une condamnation du libre arbitre au rang d’une simple illusion. Pour évaluer la pertinence de telles critiques, il faut d’abord revenir sur quelques-unes de ces expériences (Libet, Wegner et Wheatley, Brasil-Neto et alii), afin de pouvoir ensuite disjoindre leurs résultats empiriques des conceptions métaphysiques qui sous-tendent leurs interprétations. Cette démarche conduit à proposer en conclusion quelques éléments de contre-critique. |

| Summary, etc. | Are we really free ? In the last forty years, in the neurosciences this question rose with particular incisiveness. Numerous experiments have brought about findings which were interpreted by neuroscientists, in particular in Germany, in the sense of a condemnation of free will as a mere illusion. In order to evaluate this sort of critique, we shall get back to some of these experiments (Libet, Wegner et Wheatley, Brasil-Neto et alii) in the first place, to be then capable of distinguishing between their empirical results and metaphysical conceptions, which form the basis of their interpretation. In conclusion, this approach will lead us to suggest some elements of a counter-critique. |
