| Summary, etc. | Doit-on voir dans la boxe une fascination pour la violence, qu’un cadre réglementé rend acceptable (voire rentable) ? Son sens s’épuise-t-il dans le simple échange des coups ? Nous essaierons plutôt de voir en quoi elle révèle des possibilités humaines élevées. Physiques d’abord : elle exige ce qu’on appellera un « corps total », c’est-à-dire un corps unifiant des capacités habituellement peu conciliables. Nous réfléchirons ensuite sur le sens de la violence. Cette dernière subit une transformation réelle, et non un simple maquillage. Par les règles de la boxe, elle est amenée à la hauteur d’une expérience esthétique. Enfin, l’affrontement, plutôt que de rabaisser les combattants au niveau de l’animalité, peut au contraire être compris à partir des catégories spirituelles de l’homme face à l’épreuve de l’existence. Ainsi, nous essaierons d’éclairer mutuellement l’épreuve du combat de boxe et l’épreuve existentielle. |

| Summary, etc. | Does boxing reveal a fascination for violence, likely to be seen as acceptable (or even profitable) through its setting of rules ? Do punches and knocking summarize it all ? Instead we will try to find out how far boxing reveals high human abilities. Physical first : it requires what we can call a total “body”, which means a body unifying capacities that are usually considered as non-reconcilable. Then we will question the meaning of violence. This one is transformed, and is not just covered up. Through the setting of rules, boxing reaches the level of an aesthetic experience. At last, the confrontation, far from being an animal and regressive process, can be understood according to a spiritual perspective, in which the human being faces the challenge of existence. Thus we will try to mutually explain the challenge of boxing and the challenge of existence*. |
