520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. The poem, for Pierre Emmanuel, is the privileged place of the encounter with God and the birth in us of the I that we are called to become. The fraternal relationship with Christ, the figure of Man, is in conflict with the Transcendent – Breath, Spirit, Wind – which cannot be avoided or grasped. He gives being and always seems to take it back. The poet first refused, under the aegis of Orpheus, “thief of breath”, to face up to this. He wants to remain master of his word. Torn between his faith and his refusal, he sinks into silence. The discovery of Jacob’s fight with the Angel of Delacroix gives him access to the word and opens the second part of his work. For Jacob, the fight against God is also the fight with God. There is “neither victor nor vanquished”. The poem, a common word, is the reciprocal birth of I and You.
