520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | Saint Augustine is understood to have given the Trinity a possible inchoative expression on the basis of a consideration of the states of the soul, since the soul knows itself and tends throughout itself towards a Wholly Other than itself. This path, forcefully set out in books IX to XV of the De Trinitate, was promised to a large posterity. Over time, the path narrowed and the power of images was lost in favor of a narrow metaphysics of the knowing mind, perceived as vestigium trinitatis. The Trinity has been unreasonably subjected to reasoning reason and we have lost its first forms of attestation, the Christian kerygmas and their character of obligation for the rule of faith. We must therefore now move from analogies to kerygmas and momentarily suspend the pervasive recourse to analogies. |
