Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | How can a book such as Hors Phénomène help us to think about mental disability? Because it brings the reader straight to a fundamental statement: we have no choice but to stand “in front of what we are stumbling upon”. However, “being there for” requires more than just facing the trauma of mental disability. If mental disability traumatizes the person who lives with, this person in turn traumatizes his or her relatives – we then find out that any traumatic situation includes two traumatic scenes. As Emmanuel Falque points out: the worst thing would lie in the incapacity to build up one’s “core of solitude”. How to remain present to mentally disabled persons – who arouse more anxiety than joy in us? How not to slide from solitude to loneliness? |
