Summary, etc. | Les guerres ont fourni des arguments aux réformateurs de l’école : tel fut le cas de la guerre de Sept Ans au xviiie siècle. À la fin de la Première Guerre mondiale, les Compagnons de L’Université nouvelle, sept sous-officiers enseignants, espéraient que l’Union sacrée prolongerait ses effets dans la paix en faveur de la démocratisation de l’école. Ils voulaient fonder l’« école unique », gratuite jusqu’aux formations supérieures, qui devait inclure le secteur privé. L’équité sociale servirait l’efficacité économique en faveur de la reconstruction. Les Compagnons refusent toute division du corps social. Fidèles à l’héritage chrétien, ils rêvent de réconciliation entre les citoyens croyants et non croyants. Mais l’entre-deux-guerres vit renaître la polarisation de la question scolaire entre catholiques et anticléricaux. Les Compagnons ont œuvré à les réconcilier, sans parvenir à éteindre les querelles. |

Summary, etc. | The wars provided arguments to the school reformers: such was the case of the French and Indian War in the 18th century. At the end of the First World War, the Companions of the Université nouvelle , seven teachers, still officers, hoped that the Union sacrée would continue during peace in favor of a democratic reform of the school. They wanted to set up the “ école unique ”, school free of charge up to higher education, which would include the private sector. Social equity would serve economic efficiency for reconstruction. The Companions refuse any division of the society. Faithful to the Christian heritage, they dream of reconciliation between agnostic and believer citizens. But during the interwar period the polarization of the school question between Catholics and anticlerical survived. The Companions worked to reconcile them, without managing to extinguish the controversies. |
