520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | At the foot of the Pilgrim Castle, the medieval cemetery of Atlit contains several thousand tombs dating from the 13th century. This funerary space raises the question of the multiple events that led to the burial of archaeological remains and that must be discussed at different scales. The intense use of the cemetery for at least 80 years has led to the exhuming, moving and re-investing of bones. The cemetery was later abandoned and grave markings were buried. The discovery and restoration of the cemetery during the British Mandate in 1934 again led to the excavation and burial of other remains. During the 20th century, climatic hazards continued to modify the burial of archaeological remains. Finally, the resumption of the excavation of the site at the beginning of the 21st century revived these processes but also contributed to a better understanding of this complex history. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
