| Summary, etc. | Serge Baret, qui fut préfet d’Alger (décembre 1956-mai 1958) puis secrétaire général du gouvernement général (juin-décembre 1958) est resté un illustre inconnu à l’image contradictoire depuis les livres d’Yves Courrière (1969) et du général Massu (1971 et 1972). Les mentions qui en sont faites dans l’historiographie de la guerre d’Algérie le présentent le plus souvent comme un auxiliaire zélé de Lacoste, Massu et Salan. Mais des sources publiques et privées permettent d’en dresser un portrait plus nuancé. |

The mentions made of him in the historiography of the Algerian war most often present him as zealous auxiliary to Lacoste, Massu and Salan. But public and private sources allow us to paint a much more nuanced picture. |
