L’auteur commence par comparer l’approche kantienne et celle des philosophes utilitaristes avec l’éthique professionnelle, puis il montre comment le discours contemporain est imprégné de références implicites aux « vertus » individuelles qui ne coïncident pas entièrement avec ces cadres de référence. Une éthique du care devrait réconcilier la valeur attribuée à chaque acte individuel de prise en charge avec la nécessité d’établir une base équitable pour la justice sociale dans les institutions sociales existantes. |

Beginning with a comparison of Kantian and utilitarian approaches to professional ethics, the author goes on to show how contemporary discourse is impregnated by implicit references to individual "virtues" that cannot be entirely explained in either of these frameworks. An ethics of "care" would need to reconcile the value attributed to each individual act of caring with the need to establish an equitable basis for social justice within existing social institutions. |
