| Summary, etc. | Résumé Le nazisme n’est pas passé sur l’archéologie comme une bourrasque dans l’histoire : il a failli emporter avec lui, en 1945, une science de l’homme prise en défaut et qui s’était largement vouée depuis 1933 à gratter le sol pour le vainqueur. Ralliement passif à l’État nazifié, mise en perspective propagandiste, ralliements individuels au nazisme de savants prestigieux n’expliquent pas tout. L’article souhaite éclairer « un phénomène sans précédent dans l’histoire humaine » : l’archéologie « politico-raciale » a longtemps perverti l’archéologie allemande tout entière. |

| Summary, etc. | Nazism did not just pass over archeology like a gust in history : it almost carried it away in 1945. Since 1933 it had largely devoted itself to scratching the ground for the winner and it was caught out. The explanations that it had rallied the Nazi regime passively ; that it had been used as propaganda, that there were individual and prestigious scientists won over to the Nazi cause don’t explain everything. The article’s aim is to show an unprecedented phenomenon in human history : « political-racial archeology » had perverted all of German archeology. |
