| Summary, etc. | Les papy-boomers, actuellement principaux aidants informels de leurs parents, devraient à leur tour passer dans la catégorie des personnes à aider alors que la relève d’aidants informels n’est plus assurée. Il apparaît urgent de ménager le réservoir d’aidants informels encore disponible d’un côté, tout en rationalisant les coûts de l’aide formelle, de l’autre. Ces dernières années, la recherche s’intéresse de plus en plus aux compétences des aidants, alors que les institutions gouvernementales se rejoignent pour préconiser l’amélioration de la coordination entre aidants. Or, il s’avère que le droit français a pris soin, au contraire, d’entériner des frontières entre le professionnel et le profane. Rien n’est prévu légalement pour que cette coordination ait lieu. Cet état de fait reflète la place réifiée laissée aux personnes fragiles ou en difficultés dans notre société. Pour concevoir une coordination entre aide formelle et informelle, il importe donc de faire évoluer le paradigme qui a conduit aux constructions actuelles. |

| Summary, etc. | The coordination of helpers for the aged living at home in legislative guidanceThe “baby-boom” generation, currently the main informal support system for their parents, will soon become those who need help in their turn at a time when there is no guarantee that such support will continue to be available. It seems urgent to carefully manage the diminishing reserve of caregivers whilst also rationalising the cost of formal support systems. During the last few years research has focussed on the abilities of carers, at a time when government institutions are in agreement in recommending the improvement of coordination between carers. In fact, French law has no provision for such coordination and has been careful to confirm the boundary between professional and layperson carers. This state of affairs reflects the reality of the place accorded to those who are vulnerable or in difficulty in our society. To see effective coordination between the formal and informal support systems the model which has led to the current structures will need to change. |
