| Summary, etc. | RésuméDans Les Vérités inavouables de Jean Genet (Seuil, 2004), Ivan Jablonka ambitionne de renouveler l’approche du célèbre écrivain français, en mettant en évidence l’importance des soutiens dont il a bénéficié à l’Assistance publique, sa fascination assumée pour le fascisme et l’opération par laquelle ses exégètes, Sartre au premier chef, en ont fait un opprimé insurgé contre l’ordre établi. Cette démarche n’a pas pleinement convaincu Ludivine Bantigny, qui souligne certains travers dans l’interprétation et dans le raisonnement. Leur désaccord a donné lieu à un débat à la fois contradictoire et positif concernant l’histoire de l’enfance irrégulière et la nature du fascisme, mais aussi, plus largement, sur l’exercice biographique et les relations entre histoire et critique. |

| Summary, etc. | In Les Vérités inavouables de Jean Genet (Seuil 2004), Ivan Jablonka has the ambition of renewing the approach to the famous French writer, showing how much support he derived from the Assistance publique, his supposed fascination for fascism, and the operation by which his exegetes, Sartre in particular, made him out to be an oppressed rebel against the established order. This approach did not totally convince Ludivine Bantigny who points out several obstacles in the interpretation and reasoning. Their disagreement led to a debate that was both contradictory and positive concerning the history of his irregular childhood and the nature of fascism, but also, more generally, on the exercise of biography and relations between history and criticism. |
