| Summary, etc. | Résumé L’étude du Troisième Reich a été renouvelée par la découverte d’une source exceptionnelle dans les archives moscovites : le journal que Joseph Goebbels, ministre de la Propagande nazie et proche de Hitler, a tenu jour après jour pendant vingt-cinq ans, depuis son engagement en politique jusqu’à sa propre mort, en 1945. Cette source sans pareil, tant elle fourmille d’informations sur le fonctionnement interne du gouvernement national-socialiste, pose pourtant un problème majeur : elle est unique, et il est difficile d’en faire une critique externe appropriée. L’article propose donc une lecture transversale de cette source, qui a évolué au fil des années, selon le rapport qu’entretenait son auteur avec elle, afin d’en tirer des outils de critique interne. Pour ne pas tomber dans les erreurs de l’ouvrage Hitler m’a dit de Hermann Rauschning, l’historien doit analyser les distorsions que Goebbels fait subir à la réalité, à commencer par l’image qu’il donne de lui-même au fil des pages. |

| Summary, etc. | Joseph Goebbels’ Diary The history of the Third Reich has been revitalized since the discovery, in the Muscovite archives, of an exceptional document: the diary of Joseph Goebbels, the national-socialist minister of Propaganda and close friend of Hitler. He kept this diary day after day for twenty-five years, from his first steps in politics to his death, in 1945. Although this extraordinary source provides much information about the internal national-socialist government system, it is nevertheless difficult to criticize it appropriately from the outside. The present work aims to provide a global view of this historical source and to propose some internal critical tools to interpret it. This diary evolved over years, depending on Goebbels’ relationship to it. So as to avoid the pitfall encountered in Hermann Rauchning’s Hitler Speaks, the historian must take into account how Goebbels distorted reality, especially the vision he gives of himself. |
