| Summary, etc. | RésuméÀ partir du 1945, Staline a déclaré la guerre de propagande au monde extérieur pour couper toutes relations avec l’URSS. Cette campagne unit la terreur propagandiste et la terreur physique. Des articles de journaux ont provoqué assassinats et déportations. Ce furent surtout les milieux de la science et de la culture qui furent visés. Le mot d’ordre de cette campagne fut la lutte contre le cosmopolitisme. Cette lutte s’appuya sur le chauvinisme de la Grande Russie, l’antisémitisme et toutes sortes de xénophobies. Staline a lui-même orchestré cette campagne durant la période 1945-1953. Les documents concernant cette propagande ont été édités dans un vaste recueil en russe intitulé Staline et le cosmopolitisme, 1945-1953. L’auteur de l’article commente le contenu de cet ouvrage, tout en confrontant certains moments avec ses propres souvenirs de jeune étudiant polonais en histoire, envoyé à l’âge de 17 ans à l’Université de Kazan sur les bords de la Volga. |

| Summary, etc. | In 1945 Stalin launched a huge propaganda machine against the outside world to cut his country off from the rest of the world. This overwhelming propaganda was accompanied by a fierce campaign of terror on a massive scale. Murder and deportation followed press articles, which attacked above all academics and artists. The theme of the propaganda campaign was the fight against cosmopolitism. This fight was based on Russia’s chauvinism, anti-Semitism and many other types of xenophobia. The whole propaganda effort (from 1945 to 1953) was orchestrated by Stalin himself. The documents related to this problem were published by Russian scholars in a huge volume entitled Stalin and Cosmopolitism 1945-1953. The author comments on this work, comparing some of the aspects with his own memories of himself then (1952), a 17-year-old history student sent from Poland to the Kazan University on the banks of the Volga. |
