| Summary, etc. | Cet article propose une généalogie de l’usage dans l’historiographie française du concept de classe, depuis la classe ouvrière de l’après Seconde Guerre mondiale à sa renaissance au 21e siècle, après une éclipse, sous le vocable de classes populaires. Il aborde ensuite la lente prise en compte du genre puis des questions de race qui peinent à acquérir une légitimité scientifique face à un universalisme abstrait qui refuse de considérer les individualités et les groupes. Il plaide enfin pour l’intégration de l’histoire des femmes et du genre, celle des hommes et des femmes colonisés comme des migrants et migrantes, et de celle des dominés dans un récit ouvert sur le monde, afin de pouvoir prendre en considération une universalité plurielle. |

| Summary, etc. | This article proposes a genealogy of the concept of class in French historiography, from the working class of the post-WWII era to its resurfacing, after a long hiatus, as the middle or lower classes of the 21st century. It discusses how French historiography was slow to incorporate questions of gender, then questions of race, which have had difficulty gaining academic legitimacy in the face of an abstract universalism that refuses to consider individualities and identity groups. Finally, this article argues for the integration of the history of women and gender, of migrants, of men and women living under colonial regimes, and of all other oppressed peoples into a narrative that is open to the world and allows for a pluralist universality. |
