Summary, etc. | La compensation du handicap passe largement par l’aide humaine dont bénéficient les personnes en situation de handicap. Lorsqu’elles décident de rémunérer directement leurs aidants, elles deviennent particuliers employeurs. 70 000 personnes handicapées font ce choix en France. La majorité d’entre elles rémunèrent des volumes d’aide relativement faibles en emploi direct. Mais 2 %, à peine 1 200 personnes, consomment des volumes d’aide supérieurs ou égaux à 12 heures journalières, soit environ le quart des personnes lourdement handicapées. Chacune d’entre elles employant en moyenne quatre salariés à temps plein. Pour ces dernières, l’organisation de leur aide humaine en emploi direct relève d’un choix délibéré. En effet, plus les personnes concernées ont besoin d’un volume d’aide important, plus être particulier employeur devient porteur d’enjeux pour elles. Choisir et manager les personnes qui les accompagnent leur permet d’accroître leur autonomie, en décidant pour elles-mêmes, avec l’idée que la participation à l’organisation de sa propre existence est la première étape d’une participation sociale plus large. |

Summary, etc. | How handicap is compensated for is mainly a function of the human care people in a situation of handicap receive. When they decide to pay their carers directly they become individual employers. 70 000 handicapped people have made this choice in France. Among them the majority remunerate relatively low duration of help by direct employment. But only 2 %, hardly more than 200 people, that is about a quarter of those with serious and multiple disabilities, use 12 daily hours or more. For these people, the organization of their human help as direct employment is a deliberate choice. The more the person concerned needs help, the more is at stake when becoming a direct employer. To choose and manage the people who care for them enables them to increase their autonomy, by deciding for themselves, with the idea that participation in the organization of one’s own existence is the first step towards a wider form of social participation |
