| Summary, etc. | L’article propose une version synthétisée de l’une des rares études monographiques réalisées sur l’histoire du génocide des Tutsi dans une région de l’Est du pays. Le secteur de Nyarubuye sert ici à l’analyse de la mise en œuvre des massacres, encadrés par les autorités locales dont le rôle est essentiel. Entre le 14 et le 17 avril 1994, au centre de Nyarutunga et à la paroisse de Nyarubuye, environ vingt-sept mille personnes sont assassinées. Dans le premier lieu, les habitants tentent conjointement de résister aux assaillants venus des secteurs voisins avant qu’une partie d’entre eux ne reçoivent l’ordre de tuer les Tutsi. La paroisse avait attiré de nombreux Tutsi des communes voisines gagnées plus tôt par les violences, elles y furent exterminées en quelques jours seulement. |

| Summary, etc. | Local Approach of the GenocideThis article offers a summarized version of one of the rare monographs devoted to the history of the Tutsi genocide in the Eastern region of the country. The Nyarubuye sector provides here the context for an analysis of the massacres’ organisation as supervised by the local authorities, whose role was essential. Between the 14th and the 17th of April 1994, in the centre of Nyarutunga and in the Parish of Nyarubuye, about twenty-seven thousand people were murdered. At first, the inhabitants worked together to resist their attackers, arriving from neighbouring sectors, until some of them were ordered to kill the Tutsi. The Parish had attracted many Tutsi from neighbouring parishes where the violence had already spread, and its occupants were exterminated in a matter of days. |
