| Summary, etc. | En 1882, Jules Ferry a consacré le jeudi comme jour réservé à la possibilité, pour les élèves des écoles publiques, devenues laïques, de recevoir une instruction religieuse. Transférée au mercredi en 1972, cette pause de milieu de semaine dans les apprentissages scolaires est menacée à partir des années 1970 par la demande de certains parents de supprimer les cours du samedi matin. Cependant, au nom de l’instruction religieuse, l’épiscopat s’oppose au transfert des cours du samedi matin au mercredi matin. Dans un contexte d’appel pontifical à une « nouvelle évangélisation », cette question est une importante source de tension dans les années 1980. Elle témoigne des difficultés de l’épiscopat à admettre toutes les conséquences de la sécularisation de la société. |
