520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | Easily assimilated, the idea of « the right distance » has for a long time helped to reassure professionals by insisting on what would come under the heading of a possible mastery of the aid relationship. But in reality, the « right distance » is not an operative concept for social work and social support. It fails to express the complexity of the encounter between a professional and the person who seeks his or her help, it locks him or her into a technical unidimensionality that a clinical approach would reject. This is why, based on the work of Donald Winnicott, we propose to develop the notion of « potential space for help », a dynamic space, with its own temporality, that the professional will patiently embroider with emotions, consolidate with listening, and enliven with words so that the subject accepts to reconsider what he/she is experiencing. |
