| Summary, etc. | Conservés dans les archives diplomatiques françaises, les « papiers d’Abdelkrim » se composent de centaines de documents écrits en langue arabe par les dirigeants de la résistance anticoloniale durant la guerre du Rif (1921-1926). Saisis par l’armée française lors de la reddition de Mohamed ben Abdelkrim Al-Khattabi, ils ont fait l’objet en 2021 d’une demande de restitution matérielle formulée par les Archives du Maroc, une demande parmi d’autres réclamant la restitution des « biens culturels » africains et des « archives coloniales » conservées en France. Cet article propose de formuler autrement les termes de cette requête par une analyse historienne et documentaire de ce fonds d’archive. |

| Summary, etc. | Preserved in France’s diplomatic archives since being seized by the French army, the “Abdelkrim papers” consist of hundreds of documents written in Arabic by the leaders of the anti-colonial resistance during the Rif War (1921-1926). In 2021, the Archives du Maroc presented a formal request for the material restitution of these papers—one of many such requests in the context of debates on the restitution of African “cultural property” and “colonial archives” held in France. This article aims to reformulate the terms of Morocco’s restitution request through a historical and documentary analysis. |
