| Summary, etc. | RésuméEn URSS, lorsque commence la perestroïka, la question des répressions staliniennes est tue depuis deux décennies dans les publications officielles et il n’existe toujours pas de biographie de Staline. Or, à partir de 1986, ce sont des œuvres de prose (romans et nouvelles), qui, écrites à des époques diverses, abordent, les premières, le thème des répressions. Elles aident la société soviétique à prendre conscience de ce que celle-ci a subi et à quoi elle a participé sous Staline, et l’incitent à explorer publiquement sa propre mémoire, ses traumatismes, voire sa responsabilité. Un débat public et passionné s’engage dans la presse, mais les historiens, très divisés sur cette question sensible, n’y interviennent qu’avec retard et timidement. C’est pourtant de ce processus qu’émerge l’association Memorial qui, depuis vingt ans, réalise de remarquables travaux historiques sur le système répressif soviétique. |

| Summary, etc. | In the USSR when perestroika began, the issue of Stalinist repression had not been mentioned for two decades in official publications and there was no biography of Stalin. But as of 1986 fiction (novels and short stories) written at different periods, dealt with the issue of repression first. They alerted the Soviet society to what it had undergone and in what it participated under Stalin and encouraged it to publicly explore its own memory, traumatisms and even its responsibility. An impassioned public debate took place in the press, but historians, very divided on this controversial subject, held back or participated timidly. This was the process that saw the emergence of the Memorial association that has carried out remarkable historical work on the repressive Soviet system over the last twenty years. |
