| Summary, etc. | Cet article est fondé sur une enquête réalisée dans une institution de prise en charge de jeunes personnes (11-20 ans) touchées par un handicap jugé médicalement « lourd ». Selon une approche sociologique, il rend compte du travail quotidien de l’institution sur les résidents, à travers l’étude des pratiques des professionnels – éducateurs, ergothérapeutes, orthophonistes – mais aussi de l’agencement de l’espace. Ces pratiques, ces dispositifs et ces techniques se forment autour d’un ordre institutionnel qui entre en cohérence avec le mandat politique de l’institution, mais qui s’exerce de manière contradictoire sur les personnes en situation de handicap. L’étude ethnographique du travail politique de l’institution permet de comprendre comment se forme et s’exerce, jusque dans les corps, la politique du handicap. |

| Summary, etc. | This article is based on a study that was carried out in a French medical institution in charge of young patients (11 to 20 years old) affected by severe disabilities. Through the analysis of the professionals’ practices - educators, occupational therapists, speech therapists -, and space layout, a sociological approach emphasizes how the institution generates a daily workload that weighs both on professionals and patients. Practices, devices and methods are institutionalized and made consistent with the medical institution’s political mandate. But it affects the disabled in a contradictory way. The ethnographic study of the medical institution’s political work allows to understand how the policy for the disabled appears and works at the institution level. |
