Summary, etc. | La loi du 11 février 2005 pour l’ Égalité des droits et des chances, la participation et la citoyenneté des personnes handicapées renforce les dispositifs d’aménagements de poste et reconnaît différents droits à une population de travailleurs marginalisés. Source de changement, ce cadre ne résout pas tous les problèmes de discrimination. Cet article explicite les ressorts et les conséquences de l’invisibilité du « travail en plus » si souvent engagé par des salariés sourds pour négocier des conditions satisfaisantes de travail. La non-reconnaissance de l’importance du langage au travail et les stratégies adoptées par ces salariés découlent concrètement d’une définition de l’insertion professionnelle où l’essentiel du problème serait porté par l’individu s’écartant de la norme. Notre terrain témoigne que des alternatives sont possibles dès lors que s’engagent une gestion collective de la diversité ainsi que d’autres manières de se coordonner et d’interagir au travail. |

Summary, etc. | The law of February 11th, 2005 for the Equality of rights and opportunities, participation and citizenship of disabled persons consolidates legal possibilities for work station accommodation, and recognizes various rights for a population of marginalized workers. However, this framework doesn’t solve all discrimination problems generated by disability. This article examines underlying causes and consequences of an invisible double workload often performed by deaf employees, as they aim to negotiate satisfactory working conditions. We show that work performance is still a normative concept based on oral language, thereby excluding non-vocal individuals. Consequently, deaf people develop coping mechanisms to try and circumvent this implicit norm. Our empirical research shows that alternative ways of performing in the workplace are possible, as long as all concerned decide to engage in the collective management of diversity and develop new ways to interact in the workplace. |
