| Summary, etc. | Dans les analyses sociohistoriques sur les statistiques publiques, celles-ci apparaissent comme une ressource particulièrement efficace pour contribuer à la définition d’un problème public et légitimer des actions politiques. En étudiant la production et la diffusion des statistiques de santé au travail produites par des médecins du travail en entreprise, l’article montre un processus plus chaotique aux effets ambivalents. Les médecins ont recours aux chiffres pour mettre en visibilité les relations entre santé et travail et peser dans les démarches de prévention. La production quantitative accompagne une plus grande visibilité de la santé au travail. Toutefois, les chiffres échappent en partie aux médecins lorsqu’ils sont repris par des gestionnaires dans des usages normatifs qui orientent la manière de définir les enjeux de santé au travail et leurs modalités de prise en charge. |

| Summary, etc. | Figures for what purposes?Socio-historical analyses of public statistics usually regard them as resources to define public problems and legitimate political actions. In this article, the analysis of the occupational health statistics produced by occupational health physicians in the workplace shows a more chaotic production process and more ambiguous results. Occupational health physicians are involved in the production of statistical indicators in order to reveal the links between health and work, and to influence prevention policies. Data production contributes to bring to light the health-at-work issues inside companies. However, figures produced by physicians tend to slip away from their hands when they are used by the management system, with its own agenda : figures are used in a more normative way, resulting in the inclusion of health at work in the prescriptive and reporting system. |
